What's New for the 2018 Nissan Frontier?

As with many of its peers trying to please the technology-crazed world, the 2018 Nissan Frontier arrives with a new standard suite of tech components, including a touchscreen display and hands-free connectivity. This year, the award-winning Frontier, which is classified as a midsize pickup truck, presents owners with a number of standard amenities previously available only as add-on amenities. Across all trim levels, the Frontier offers creature comforts like air conditioning, a roomy cabin and comfortable seats, and drivers can sit back and relax with cruise control. A rearview camera is also added to all 2018 Frontiers. Depending on the trim level, drivers can get a Frontier with either a manual or an automatic transmission.

Extensive Trims and Features

There are two basic versions of the Frontier, which are the King Cab and the Crew Cab. Each cab type includes virtually trim levels, with the exception of the Midnight Edition, which is a high-end Crew Cab. The King Cab trims are the S 4-Cylinder, the SV 4-Cylinder, the SV V6, the Desert Runner, and the Pro-4X. Both the Desert Runner and the Pro-4X have six-cylinder engines. The S-4 Cylinder King Cab has a maximum towing capacity of 3,790 lbs. when fully equipped. Other features of the S-4 are rear seats that flip up to create more cabin space and a rearview camera. A five-inch color display screen is standard, as is Bluetooth connectivity and hands-free text message assistance. There are also two 12-volt power outlets and a USB port in the cabin. This trim has cloth seats and a four-speaker audio system. It has 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels and a keyless entry system. This model is also equipped with SiriusXM radio. The next model up is the SV V6. The SV V6 upgrades to a six-cylinder engine, and it offers drivers the option of getting a five-speed automatic. Bed rail caps and an increase in maximum payload to 1,430 pounds are other highlights of the SV V6. Automatic two-zone climate control, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel can be added as accessories. Enhanced shocks, white gauges, and special cloth trim are standards found on the Desert Runner. This vehicle has a maximum towing capacity of 6,690 lbs. The Pro-4X can tow 6,450 lbs. It has skid plates and the same advanced shocks as the Desert Runner has. The Crew Cab has the same different trim levels as the King Cab. However, it also adds the Midnight Edition, which is a special all-black version of the Frontier complete with a step rails, a detailed front grille, and custom 18-inch alloy wheels. The wheels and entire exterior are painted black.

Four and Six Cylinder Performance

2018 Nissan Frontier InteriorThe four-cylinder engine in some Frontier trims is a 2.5L engine with a maximum of 152HP at 5,2000 RPM and 171 LB-FT of torque at 4,400 RPM. The V6 engine that powers the other Frontier models is a four-liter, 261 horsepower engine that produces 281 LB-FT of torque. The six-cylinder versions of the Frontier are available in either automatic or manual transmissions. Most vehicles run on standard gasoline, a separate Flexible Fuel model takes both ethanol and regular gasoline. A continuously variable valve timing mechanism is standard on the Frontier engine intake valves. The Frontier is equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS), and it has front and rear vented disc brakes. The 2018 Frontier has an independent front and rear suspension with a stabilizer bar in the front and a rear suspension that has a solid axle.

Keeping You Safe

2018 Nissan Frontier BedThe Frontier is designed to be rugged, durable and reliable, and it's also designed to be incredibly safe. This Nissan is equipped with an advanced airbag system that has occupant-detection sensors. Both the driver's seat and passenger's seat have front and side-mounted airbags. The Nissan also adds protection in the form of roof-mounted airbags in the event of a rollover. A traction control system and tire pressure monitoring system are other safety components found in all levels of the Frontier, as an inside backup camera on the rearview mirror.
