The LEAF is a remarkable electric vehicle, holding the #2 spot in its class—a notable achievement given the fierce competition. While the Nissan LEAF already offers many impressive features, recent updates have further enhanced its appeal and performance.
Fermata Energy Bidirectional Charger
One of the latest innovations Nissan has introduced for the LEAF is the Fermata Energy Bidirectional Charger. This cutting-edge charger allows the LEAF not only to draw energy from the grid but also to send power back to it. This groundbreaking functionality makes the LEAF the first electric vehicle in the U.S. capable of both receiving and supplying energy to the grid.
The charger’s capabilities extend beyond its bidirectional energy flow. It can store energy for later use or help owners reduce costs by feeding surplus electricity back into the grid. Fully compliant with industry standards, including UL and CHAdeMO, the charger has also passed Nissan's own rigorous testing and is now officially approved for use with the LEAF.
The V2X Platform
In addition to the Fermata charger, Nissan is utilizing the V2X platform with the LEAF. This smart software system works seamlessly with the charger, providing the LEAF with up to 33% more power. Designed to meet industry standards, the platform is optimized for cost-effective manufacturing, helping to lower prices for consumers. Available at Nissan dealerships and for fleet customers, this technology is fully compatible with the LEAF without affecting its warranty and may have been available for select models as far back as 2013, depending on location.
