
The new incarnation of the Nissan Leaf is getting a brand-new powertrain that now allows the little hatchback to go up to 107 miles on electric power alone.
The Leaf is the bestselling electric car in the world and boasts a wide-range of fans who love its spunky driving feel, terrific fuel economy and fun interior features. This model year, the Leaf is getting a slight update; one that fans are sure to flock to once it hits dealerships this fall.
"Since Nissan LEAF launched in December 2010, we've become the global leaders in electric vehicle (EV) sales with an all-electric car specifically designed for the mass market," said Andrew Speaker, director, Nissan Electric Vehicle (EV) Sales & Marketing. "We know that to maintain that leadership, we must continue developing battery technology that strikes that ideal balance between capacity, packaging, durability and affordability."
The new powertrain is available on the SV and SL models of the Leaf. Its uses a 30 kWh battery pack that is larger than the previous 24 kWh pack. This new battery gives the car an electric driving range that is 27 percent higher than its predecessor. It is paired with an 80kW AC synchronous motor that produces a terrific 170 horsepower.
