Car Not Accelerating

After you've invested in a new vehicle, you must invest time and money into routine maintenance and repairs. Nissan of McKinney can provide you with whatever service you need moving forward, including diagnosing any problems occurring with your automobile. You're likely the first person that's going to notice something is amiss with your vehicle since you're the one that's driving it most often. Pay close attention to any strange noises you may hear or issues that may occur while in motion. If you notice that you're not able to accelerate as quickly as you used to, this can be a potential safety issue that you should have addressed as soon as possible.

A Dirty or Corroded Mass Air Flow Sensor or Oxygen Sensor

A mass airflow sensor is used by your vehicle to monitor the amount of air moving through your engine. An oxygen sensor monitors the fuel to air ratio inside of your engine. Sensors are commonly in contact with many particles from the air, and a dirty sensor is typical. Though, this can cause a problem with the acceleration rate that your vehicle experiences. A mass airflow sensor can easily be cleaned by a professional, but an oxygen sensor has to be replaced rather than maintained.

Malfunctioning Throttle Position Sensor

Your throttle valve will move open and closed when your engine is running, and you're accelerating. A sensor is included on this unit to communicate to your vehicle's computer what angle the throttle valve is open. This communication can break down, which would prevent your vehicle from utilizing its full power potential.

Dirty Fuel Filter

Whenever possible, you should utilize clean filters in your automobile to cut down on the amount of dust and debris accumulating on different interior parts. Your fuel filter can last anywhere from 20,000 to 60,000 miles, depending on where you drive. If the filter becomes too dirty and isn't being replaced, you may notice a decrease in acceleration power.

Dirty Air Filter

An engine air filter can last up to 45,000 miles, but it can be replaced in as little as 15,000 miles if you're driving in a dusty climate. If you let this filter get too dirty, you can have a decrease in acceleration power. You can also do damage to your engine.

Reach out to Nissan of McKinney if you have a problem with acceleration that you would like to have checked out. We would be happy to help you diagnose an issue that you've noticed, and we can also help with a check engine light that may have come on recently.
