CASA of Collin County

Every abused child needs a voice and a safe place. When children are abused or neglected, they often fall into a silent world where it feels like no one hears them, and there's no one out there speaking to them either. CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocates - is a non-profit organization in Collin County that steps in to advocate for children who need them. In just the last year alone, they helped in more than 1,650 cases in the Child Protective Services system.

How CASA Helps

Child advocates do a variety of work on behalf of the children that count on them. When a child is removed from the home because of child abuse or neglect, CASA steps in. They've been doing this type of service since 1997, so they've got a long line of children who benefited from their work. Volunteers step in to judge-appointed positions to advocate on behalf of the children.

Foster children work with these caseworkers until they are placed in a permanent home. During this time, the caring, compassionate people of CASA can make a difference in these children's lives. They meet face-to-face with the kids at least twice a month, sometimes more if the situation warrants it. These face-to-face meetings and the fact that the Child Advocate is in communication with the courts makes a difference in the outcome of the cases and the lives of children themselves. Children deserve a caring voice that can speak out for them and communicate their needs. They also deserve someone who helps them feel safe and secure in a world where they tragically were not at first.

It has been shown repeatedly that a child advocate can significantly impact the child's outcome. They help the children understand their situation and why things are happening. A loving adult in their lives also gives them an example of the good in humanity, even if they've mostly seen the bad up to that point. Giving each child an advocate who can help them through each stage of the process before placement in a home, CASA of Collin County supports each new generation of children to have a better outcome.
